Behind The Scenes: Descendants of the Sun

Behind The Scenes: Descendants of the Sun

What happens when we can't have the photo shoot on location? We bring the location to the studio! When you're at the mercy of inclement weather and there are deadlines to beat, the job of a production designer/art department becomes all the more crucial. For GMA Network's version of the koreanovela Descendants of the Sun, an army camp and barracks had to be painstakingly recreated inside a small space for the pictorial. I have to admit that our PD did quite a very awesomely meticulous job with the details and textures we worked with on that day. I think that…

The new SMAC

The new SMAC

Here are some head shots for the new SM Advantage Card. This rebranding is very timely just before the Christmas rush! Simple setup really! A beauty dish above center and in front of talent and a soft box right behind the photographer. For added punch, a hairlight falling on the talent's head and shoulders! Wish Ko Lang

Wish Ko Lang

Both Jay and I would agree that the studio is our happy place. And for good and practical reason. We're both such control freaks that we would rather simulate the look of a golden sunset or an overcast day with artificial lighting in the convenience of an indoor space with AC, rather than out there with all the heat and smog. (We're brats that way). And sometimes we just can't refuse the call of the great outdoors - and also because, our clients insist and we excitedly oblige and take on the challenge! For this particular shoot with GMA, I…

Grateful

Grateful

And just like that, 10 years have gone by - a thrilling ride to say the least. It may not be the most prestigious award but it sure feels that way and to me, a timely and fitting way to mark a decade in the industry. Thank you to my friend, Maan D'Asis Pamaran who invited me to contribute and to landscape photographer extraordinaire for giving her the lead. ;-P Interestingly, I've worked with Maan only once and eons ago on a lifestyle article I already forgot about. I've since been an avid follower of her humorous and enlightening Facebook…

Cain At Abel

Cain At Abel

I've worked with both Dingdong Dantes and Dennis Trillo a number of times all on separate occasions in the past. Cain At Abel brings these two GMA stalwarts together in one exciting, action-packed production that tells of two brothers separated at childhood and then joined together years after in cruel twists of fate. Both men are considered showbiz royalty and yet manage to remain grounded and humble having come a long way in their respective careers. I've worked with all kinds of actors in the industry and the most rewarding to collaborate with are the ones with a deep respect…

The National Museum of Natural History Manila

The National Museum of Natural History Manila

New buildings around the city are noticeably on the rise and quite a few of them have been refurbished, updated and repurposed as well. The 'new' National Museum of Natural History in Manila is one of the more interesting and compelling architectural feats that draws young and old from far and wide, selfie addicts included. Housed in the former Department of Tourism building, the National Museum of Natural history has retained its neoclassical details with the addition of its more modern centerpiece called 'The Tree of Life', an impressive geometrical glass ceiling and elevator that emulates a DNA helix right…
