I'm so proud to have done my part for a well-loved and warmly received teleserye that is now trending at the top spot on Netflix in the country. What may have been an otherwise boring text book retelling has become a remarkable phenomenon in Philippine television. What with the rich storytelling, the attention to detail with the sets and costume and stellar portrayals, it's no wonder that Maria Clara at Ibarra became such a hit! Here's some trivia! These sunglasses were shot in 2014 but I made some 2020 post production edits on them. Fortunately, there is an abundance of time during this pandemic to revisit old images and work on backlog. I thought of putting these high-end sunglasses against some very interesting coffee table book photos to match their design and vibe. Most of these were lit using just one hard light to the side along with some white reflector cards and gobos. There clearly was an emphasis on detail and craftsmanship. What happens when we can't have the photo shoot on location? We bring the location to the studio! When you're at the mercy of inclement weather and there are deadlines to beat, the job of a production designer/art department becomes all the more crucial. For GMA Network's version of the koreanovela Descendants of the Sun, an army camp and barracks had to be painstakingly recreated inside a small space for the pictorial.
